PROJECTS
PRETTY ORGANICALLY
ONGOING SINCE MARCH 2024
The series of oil paintings entitled "PRETTY ORGANICALLY" focuses on the exploration of the present moment. The artist has delved into this theme with her own photographs of important events and situations in her contemporary life. The aim of the project is to create works that share the author's narrative, yet are open to the individual interpretation of the viewer. They encourage reflection on the perception and experience of the present moment and offer an aesthetic experience of the play of colour and composition.
PASSATA DI POMODORO
NOVEMBER 2023 - MARCH 2024
Five paintings should be "read" from up to bottom. Each one depicts an important event or scenery from Stropkaiová´s life abroad in Italy. The series is a result of the processual painting in which the artist was immerging herself along painting deeper and deeper to the same canon moments, looking for a closure that never came. Her decision to close the series came after five months of the process.
REWIRING
2022
Project Rewiring is seen as a symbolic product of internal structure reorganization of the human form. In this piece, a cotton canvas was taken to be the base for further work.
Stropkaiová asked for her silouette to be delicately drawn on the fabric, where afterwards, she rewired it from the inside. Only horizontal fibers were taken out for to create different texture and vacant space for the backround to fulfill the figure. After three days of full day work the piece was installed in the center of Slovakia on it´s fields in the early morning hours.
IN BETWEEN
FEBRUARY - JUNE 2022
Composed by 3 diptychs of different sizes and styles, a series In Between collects the same relationship between two units and their dialouge each in a different form. In this storyline depicted characters show a phase of their journey; expressions and chosen pallette show their emotional state and symbols the spiritual one.
Particular attention is dedicated to the connection that the artist brings up under the theme of complementary relationship. It may be seen as the invisible mutual artwork that visibly affects both sides.
Created intuitively, with almost no vision of what final procudct may look like, Stropkaiová started her research. In this series she decided to invert the creative process from the traditional way in which the result is decided before starting the project to the opposite order. It was more important to discover the process gradually than to lead it mechanically.
11
2019
In 2019, after returning from Florence and almost one year long experience in Manifattura Tabbacchi back to L´Aquila, the city where the artist studied, Stropkaiová decided to turn the attention more to introspection.
11 is made up of four portraits in the same position with the gaze directed straight to the spectator. A chain of pictures are leading the public to look at them as a process that a person may undergo, where the base motif was picked from the previous project* Venezian*(The Venetian girl from the artist Frank Duveneck, 1880), because of some sort of inability to move from the picture yet.
VENEZIAN
SEPTEMBER 2018 - MARCH 2019
Venezian was born of a desire to approach painting through repetition. It is a series of paintings of various dimensions, based on an original source image which is then freely replicated. This repetition assumes the central role in the artistic process and highlights the uniqueness of every reproduced ‘artefact’. This method allows the artist to free herself from preconceived concepts about painting and, at the same time, ties them to the repeated image, establishing a kind of fidelity to it.
To create these paintings, the author took the “source image” (Frank Duveneck, Venetian girl, 1880) with the intention of creating a copy and, during the execution phases, she transformed it into a new entity. Decisions about colour – whether to use an intense or attenuated palette – derived from the immediate emotional reaction that she had towards the painting at that specific moment.
SEEMS OUT
2018
Body of work that represents a microcosm of collective memory, absorbing a broad range of cultural, literary, and philosophical illusions that was created for the festival Follie d´Estate, located in the space of abbandoned building net previously serving as a psychiatric hospital.
From the tecnical point of view, the paintings were created simultaneously together, where artist included the technique of automatic writing in the backround. Each piece was also repainted several times, turning the canvas upside down to achieve the unusual, deformed shape of the portraits.
L´UMILTÁ
OCTOBER 2015 - FEBRUARY 2016
Humility was the main theme Stropkaiová was intuitively concentrating on back in 2016. It´s letteral definition says ´The quality of having a modest or low view of one's importance.´.
A triptych mixed with light installation was designed to be the Manifesto of the Humility. Made with suitable attitude; with minimum of material provided by University, in the space of her personal room with minimum of two hours of daily dedication and side practice for the project in length of four months, the final product was presented in the majestic Theatre headroom of Accademia di Belle Arti in L´aquila, on a hidden side wall with moderate lighting.
