REMINDERS

2025

The project “Reminders” consists of a series of four figurative diptych oil paintings (each canvas measuring 50 × 70 cm), created for an exhibition at Šopa Gallery in Košice.

The central aim of the project is to visually transform fragments of the artist’s personal narrative into figurative painting, with the works functioning as a form of diary entry.

The project builds on the tradition of classical academic figurative painting and is executed in oil. In terms of technique, the artist focuses on a surface treatment that evokes the texture of precious stones and the appearance of affresco. The creative process is intentionally intuitive and meditative, with the artist assuming the role of an observer of the unfolding scene. The result of this intuitive approach is perceived as a complete diary record - more precise than any preconceived mental construction.

In the compositions, the artist works with the layering of no more than two photographs: her own figure, landscape elements, and portraits of two of her professors. The figures of these professors (who are life partners) from the period of the artist’s life and studies abroad (2015–2021) serve here as archetypes of emotional, spiritual, and professional mastery - a visual archetype of a specific value. With their consent, their photographs are used as tarot-like archetypes (whose interpretation shifts depending on the situation or the question posed - in this case, depending on the painting itself). By combining their figures with diary entries from that period, the artist creates short narratives and emotional traces.

The series also acts as a conscious symbol of gratitude and homage to their work and their approach, which the artist aspires to follow. Aware that images can influence and reshape the psyche (neuroplasticity), the artist’s intention is to create works that may function as visual prayers - tools for consciously attracting desired values into one’s life.

The diptych format is chosen deliberately as a continuation of its long-term use in the artist’s practice. It serves as a symbol of partnership, connection, transcendence, and mutually amplified strength.

*Tara Swart, in her book The Source, argues that when a person visualizes something, they devote conscious attention to it. The brain then labels it as “valuable” (the so-called value tagging), strengthens the neural pathways associated with that emotion or vision, and subconsciously begins to seek out opportunities in the real world that confirm this vision.
